Madhusudan Naidu recalls the time when Swami taught him about the need to praise God without shame.
In this account, Madhusudan Naidu tells us about an incident when he visited a devotee in Hyderabad on the instruction of Swami. Naidu ends up visiting a famous temple along with the family of the devotee. While there, the family begins to chant and sing aloud in praise of the Lord. He does not partake in this due to his inhibition. But later Swami appears and reproaches him for his behaviour. He teaches him that one should never feel shy to praise the name of the Lord. The name of the Lord is to be invoked without inhibition in all activities and all areas.
I had visited the home of a devotee in Hyderabad on Swami’s command, who invited me to visit a famous temple along with their family that evening.
So I accompanied them and while we were waiting in the queue to enter the temple, the elderly devotee started chanting the name of the Lord loudly and a few minutes later was even singing Bhajans at the top of his voice. While his wife too joined in, the other people who were silently waiting in the queue turned around to see who was singing. madhusudan Naidu muddenhalli
This, kind of, made me uncomfortable and not knowing how was I to respond, I just kept quiet while the elderly couple sang whole heartedly unmindful of the crowds around.
Eventually when we reached the sanctum sanctorum, to my surprise, instead of the usual idol of the deity, I saw Swami standing there who seemed to be a bit upset.

Unsure, I simply stood still when Swami spoke to me chidingly, “When the devotee was singing Bhajans, why did you not join in? Were you feeling shy about singing the name of the Lord loudly, worrying about what others around would think? When it comes to singing other songs, no one feels shy anywhere but for chanting Lord’s name in Lord’s place they feel hesitant, this is very unfortunate!”
I was speechless and could not say a word, instead made amends and immediately joined in the chorus!
